INTRODUCTION

The ancient temple of our Lord Sri Srinivasa (Balaji) situated at the enchanting hilltop Huligadri, near Terakanambi, Gundlupet Taluk, Chamarajanagar District, Karnataka State (80 kms from Mysore) is popularly known as "Dakshina Sheshadri", as narrated in 'Srimad Varaha Purana'.  Our Lord Sri Srinivasa, worshipped by Lord Sri Rama in threthayuga and Pandavas in Dwaparayuga, blessed the great saint 'Mandavya Rishi' on his performance of long penance.  One could find the presence of the clan of the great saint Mandavya Rishi in sanctum sanctorum.

The Temple built in Vijayanagar Style is a major institution of Muzrai Department of Govt.  of Karnataka.  Sri. H.M.V. Temple Seva Samithi, a registered institution since 16-10-1969 under the Societies Regulation Act, 1960 has carried out several development activities at the shrine. Afforestation is being done by the forest department and drinking water is being pumped from a bore well sunk at a distance of 5 Km. Other developmental activities, like construction of Mahadwara Rajagopuram, the Paduka of the Lord Almighty, with five stories extending to a total height of 100 feet are being carried out at this shrine and the work is already half done.
